AnaEE-ERIC, the European Research Infrastructure Consortium for ecosystem research, seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher for the PHENET project: “Tools and methods for extended plant PHENotyping and EnviroTyping services of European Research Infrastructures”.
Location: Gif-sur-Yvette, near Paris (France)
Application Deadline: 22 November 2024 (however, applications may be reviewed prior to the closing date, so early submission is encouraged)
CONTEXT
The role focuses on developing phenotyping technologies to assess agroecosystem functions and support long-term agroecological monitoring. It also promotes FAIR data integration for agroecology.
As Europe seeks agroecological transitions for food security, climate resilience, biodiversity, and soil restoration, PHENET's consortium of European RIs will develop tools to identify resilient species, genotypes, and practices for future climate scenarios. The project strengthens RIs and fosters innovation in phenotyping and climate-smart agriculture. More: https://www.phenet.eu/en
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Engage in analysing the technology, tools and methods that were developed within the PHENET project and tested for their potential to establish new services ( e.g. new sensors mounted on low-energy pheno-devices and new AI solutions embarking edge computing solutions to limit dataflow, new Earth Observational (EO) services connected to ground based data, new modelling solutions as digital twins and hybrid AI to transform data produced into usable knowledge and prediction).
- Develop and implement tools and methodologies to assess and enhance the appropriate spatial and temporal scale about envirotyping (the diversity of biotic and abiotic environments faced by plants and agroecosystems, including biochemical cycles), and phenotyping (the time course and genetic variability of plant adaptive traits in the diversities of environments and agroecosystems).
- Contribute to the management and coordination of activities related to project, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance with EU regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across different RI and with international partners to advance project goals.
- Publish research findings in high-impact scientific journals and present at international conferences.
- Assist in proposal writing and securing additional funding for future research initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- PhD in Botany/Plant Physiology, Genetics and Genomics, Ecology, Agronomy, Biotechnology, Data Science and Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Proven experience in understanding the functioning of different agroecosystems.
- Understanding of AI or statistical modelling solutions, leveraging phenotypic and environmental data for analysis and prediction of the interaction between species or genotypes, environments and management practices.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in relevant software tools for environmental assessment and statistical analysis.
- Demonstrable experience in writing papers, reports, publications, and presentations.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Self-starter and autonomous.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, especially in an international environment
